Please take away this longing to be loved and admired by people,
whose affections are fleeting and fragile.
Help me to do good things, right things,
without hoping for credit.
Replace my desire to prove the worth of my life
with a humble pursuit of a worthwhile life.
Empty me of egotistical notions and fill me with your ideals,
then humble me so I can’t pretend that they were mine.
Shut my prideful mouth,
so that I only speak words that make you glad you made me.
